Donald Trump's campaign manager arrested and charged with battery

Donald J. Trump's presidential campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski 42, was charged  Tuesday by Jupiter Police in Florida with simply battery of former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields, according to police.

Mr. Lawandowski was arrested after turning himself in on the misdemeanor charge and was quickly released, and his initial court appearance is scheduled for May 4. Donald Trump backs Lewandowski, saying he's a "very decent man."

Ted Cruz told reporters that this is a reflection of Trump's campaign culture.

"This is the consequence of the culture of the Trump campaign," Cruz said. "The abusive culture, when you have a campaign that is built on personal insults, attacks and now physical violence, that has no place in our campaign, it has no place in our democracy."

Trump's campaign responded to the arrest with a statement assuring Lewandoski's innocence.

“Mr. Lewandowski is absolutely innocent of this charge. He will enter a plea of not guilty and looks forward to his day in court. He is completely confident that he will be exonerated.”
