Merry Christmas, Sandra Bland

Merry Christmas, Sandra Bland
I wish you were here to see it
Christmas Eve here in Texas was
So warm you'd hardly believe it

Merry Christmas, Sandra Bland
You should be here to greet it
Celebrating your new job, your new life
But instead we are here grieving

Merry Christmas, Sandra Bland
We grieve for you were taken
Murdered by Agents of the State
Who, instead of upholding the law, will break it

Merry Christmas, Sandra Bland
My heart weighs heavy as I pen this
How could a trip to begin your new life
In our state turn so horrendous

Merry Christmas, Sandra Bland
The grand jury did not indict
Yet the fact remains that you are dead because
You chose knew and asserted your rights

Merry Christmas, Sandra Bland
Your injustice loops upon our screens
More proof that in America driving while Black warrants a
State-sanctioned death sentence we far too often see

Merry Christmas, Sandra Bland
We can't prove the truth of what happened that night
But we do know that you'd be here this Christmas Day
If only you had been White
