A gunman responsible for a shoot off with police in a Planned Parenthood facility has been arrested, taken into custody, but his identity has not be released. Earlier today at 11:30am, reports of gun shots at a shopping mall off Centennial Boulevard drew the attention of FBI officials, the local SWAT Team and the local police departments. An hour later, an exchange of bullets happened between the police and suspected shooter inside the Planned Parenthood facility (across the street from where the shooting began). Law enforcement officials were relentlessly active on the investigation because they wanted to determine if some suspicious packages found in and out of the evacuated facility were bombs. This altercation has left 4 cops and 11 bystanders injured. There is no further medical condition updates about the victims. The traffic streets on where the shooting occurred and all the local stores nearby were shut down. Because officers weren't able to reach in voice contact with the suspect, reports state that the shooter was still armed and dangerous and possibly had an accomplice on the loose as well. Lt. Catherine Buckley and Planned Parenthood CEO Vicki Cowart are unsure of the motives of the attack, but released the following statements.
"There are a lot of possibilities with this scenario." "As I said, it is very active and we are working our way through it."
"We're not sure what the connection is to Planned Parenthood, but that was the original address we received for the call for service," Lt. Catherine Buckley said.
"We don't yet know the full circumstances and motives behind this criminal action, and we don't yet know if Planned Parenthood was in fact the target of this attack."
We share the concerns of many Americans that extremists are creating a poisonous environment that feeds domestic terrorism in this country. We will never back away from providing care in a safe, supportive environment that millions of people rely on and trust." This is as much as CEO Vicki Cowart could say about the incident.
Some nearby witnesses of the incident were asked to recall what they remembered about the shooting.
"Terrifying." I heard at least 10 gunshots go off and saw a police officer get hit. Denise Speller who works at a nearby salon was intensely frightened and also added it was unclear where all the shots were coming from.
Another witness had this to say about her horrid account of the action that took place.
"I saw about five officers behind a building with their guns drawn, as well as about three SWAT vehicles and roughly seven police cars from her vantage point in a strip mall that's across the street from the Planned Parenthood. A grocery store and bank are nearby" stated Brigitte Wolfe.
In the recent wake of the ISIS terrorist attacks in Paris, the people who were globally informed of the tragedy have begun to have a variation of ideals and concerns. The American government has been the spectacle talk of debate about it's concerns and it's plans of countering a possible future attack on it's soil. Last week the hacktivist group Anonymous released leaked information of possible locations where ISIS would attack in America. As President Obama is open to welcoming 10,000 Syrian refugees by 2016, Donald Trump has outlandish ideas to thwart the President's plans. Trump mentioned that if he was elected president then he would deport all Syrian refugees under his anti-Muslim package plan. The deal also includes shutting down all Mosques in America and requiring all Muslim-Americans to carry around a special form of identification. Trump has amassed a following of individuals who support his ideals of an anti-Muslim agenda. People are beginning to express their Islamaphobia with malicious and distasteful intentions. There were reports of Mosques being burned and damaged as well as open threats (phone calls and Youtube videos) from extremist individuals who said they would shoot and kill any Muslim they encountered. With Islamaphobia intensifying throughout our country, a major detail is being left out in the cold. After our country faced the most devastating terrorist attack in 2001, America increased all security measures to prevent it from ever happening again. There have been no terrorist attacks ever since.
“I am more fearful of large gatherings of white men that come into schools, theaters and shoot people up, but we don’t isolate young white men on this issue,” stated by the Dallas Mayor Mike Rowlings in an interview. His views as well as those who support him are under heavy criticism and controversy because many members of Congress and Republican candidates are opposed accepting Syrian Refugees.
All of the major attacks in our country have been by mentally unstable individuals with a gun or police officers shooting their suspects. Since 2001, more people have been killed in our country than soldiers overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. This year alone, 1033 people have been killed by police officers. As this type of violence in our country continues to spread and increase, the more frightening threat is being forgotten. Building tensions of hate towards Muslims will only further the agenda of ISIS. Are we actually one of the safest country's in the world, despite all the added security measures added since 9/11? Edward Snowden confessed that the NSA have the ability to spy on every citizen of this country. Does it not frighten you in the slightest that government officials can access everything about you? Even after it has failed to capture any terrorist or threat in our country? Maybe, just maybe, there is a bigger threat that most citizens aren't aware of? Some people these days are quick to criticize others rather than themselves. This habit has caused nothing more than hate and division among each other. Instead of pointing fingers at people we don't understand, we should get a to the root of the issues causing people to hate.
